Real Madrid forward Cristiano Mourinho said he is not planning to give up his goal-scoring ways after a run of three consecutive goals in La Liga and a goal in the Champions League.
“I won’t stop playing, and I will continue playing,” Mourinho told reporters after the Real Madrid 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid.
“As long as I’m here, I will do what I always do.
I have not given up on my goal-scorers.
I will be at my best, and that is to score goals.”
Mourinho said the goals he scored in the past week helped his team to a second consecutive league title.
“We were up 2-0 and at half-time we were looking for an equaliser.
I scored a penalty and it gave us a good lead,” he said.”
In the second half we were struggling to win.
I wanted to score a penalty, and when I took the corner it was 1-1.
It was good for us to get that goal.”
Mesut Ozil netted a goal to send Madrid to the Champions’ League semi-finals, but the team were beaten 2-1 by Borussia Dortmund.
“It was difficult.
We played with a little bit of nerves and we didn’t want to lose the game,” he added.
“It’s important to keep improving, and we need to continue that.
I’m happy to play with this team.”
Munich midfielder Matthias Ginter, who is on a two-match suspension after testing positive for a banned substance, was also absent.
“There was no problem, and he is still in the squad,” said manager Luis Enrique.
“He’s a good player, and will return tomorrow, but we’ll have to wait for the results of tests.”
