Two people have been rescued from their trailer, after a woman left it unattended while her husband was on holiday in Florida.
The trailer was found with a dead pig inside it and two other animals, one of which had recently been rescued.
It is understood the woman, who is in her 50s, had a previous animal cruelty conviction, including one for cruelty to animals.
She was bailed until December 10, when she was due to appear at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court.
Police say the trailer had been parked at a house on the property and there were no signs of life in the area.
The couple, who have not been named, told police the trailer was placed in a bush near the house and they had been camping in it.
The woman had recently returned to Australia, where she was studying for a PhD in wildlife conservation at the University of Queensland.
The investigation is ongoing.
