NFL Players are often held accountable for controversial incidents involving the league.
But this season, they have been hit with fines totaling over $1 million for incidents that occurred before the start of the 2016 season.
Here are five of the most high-profile.
BILL HENDRICKSON BAN: The New York Giants wide receiver was fined $1,500 and ordered to complete 30 hours of community service after allegedly choking an opponent during the preseason opener.
According to the NFL Players Association, the incident occurred at the end of the third quarter of a preseason game between the Cleveland Browns and the Oakland Raiders.
In a statement to ESPN, the league said: The NFL is aware of an incident involving former Giants wide receivers Bill Henderson and Josh Brown during the 2016 preseason and is in the process of conducting an investigation.
We will continue to vigorously investigate these incidents and take appropriate action as warranted.
DAN LOVINSON BANNED: The Indianapolis Colts defensive lineman was fined and fined $500 and suspended two games for allegedly punching his girlfriend in the face during an altercation at a bar in New York City.
According in the statement from the NFLPA, the assault occurred on September 18, 2017.
LOVIE HEDGEFIELD BANNES: The Green Bay Packers quarterback was fined a total of $1.5 million after being charged with aggravated assault and domestic violence for allegedly grabbing a woman’s neck during an argument in New Jersey on August 29.
According the statement, the altercation occurred at a hotel in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
GARY SABAL BROWN BANNING: The San Francisco 49ers quarterback was suspended for the first three games of the 2017 season after being arrested in Miami for a domestic violence incident involving a girlfriend and a woman who had been dating him.
According ESPN, a police report states that Brown and the woman were engaged when the altercation started.
The 49ers released a statement in response to the allegations.
The team said that it is fully cooperating with the police investigation and that the player is cooperating fully with the investigation.
LYNN BROWN AND THE PLEASANT CRUISE BANNINGS: The Los Angeles Rams quarterback was arrested on July 26 for domestic violence charges stemming from an incident in the Los Angeles suburb of L.A. that occurred in October 2017.
According a statement from NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith, the Rams were informed of the incident in August and suspended the quarterback until the investigation is complete.
The league also said that the incident is under review.
DANIEL BROWN HAS ANOTHER BAD ASS PLAYER BANN FOR BANNERS: The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver has been charged with two counts of domestic violence stemming from a domestic incident involving his girlfriend, according to the Kansas City Star.
The charges stem from an alleged altercation that occurred at his apartment in Los Angeles in March of this year.
According police reports, a woman said she had just gotten a call from her estranged husband when Brown and his girlfriend started arguing.
The woman told police that Brown grabbed the phone from her, forced her to her knees and threw her to the ground.
According his arrest report, Brown admitted to the domestic violence charge and was released from jail on bond.
BROWN, TONY GRAHAM, JAMES WALLACE AND THE LITTLE BLACK JUGGERNAUT: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback was arrested in November 2017 for domestic abuse.
According, the arrest report from the Tampa Police Department, the woman said Brown and another woman started fighting and that Brown struck her in the head with a hammer.
The arrest report states the woman was also physically assaulted by Brown.
The incident occurred on December 9, 2017 at an apartment in Tampa, Florida.
According Smith, “We are confident that the outcome of this case will be resolved swiftly, appropriately and in the best interests of the victim.”
